Tips & Tricks: Open Slats! The Mistake That Breaks Blinds

Sometimes it’s the smallest habits that make or break your blinds, literally. We get calls all the time from homeowners saying their blinds won’t raise, won’t lower, or the mechanism is completely shot.

And 9 times out of 10, it comes down to this one simple mistake

👇

Always Open the Slats Before Raising

When your blinds are fully down and the slats are closed, never pull the cord or lift them up.

Why? Because when you try to raise blinds while the slats are closed, all that pressure gets forced on the internal mechanism and the slats themselves. Do it enough times, and eventually something snaps:

  • The tilt mechanism strips out.

  • The slats crack.

  • Or the blinds just get stuck halfway up.

The Right Way

Before raising your blinds:

  1. Twist the wand or pull the tilt cord to fully open the slats.

  2. Then raise the blinds normally.

That simple step takes all the pressure off the system and keeps everything working smoothly.

Pro Tip: If you’ve done it accidentally a few times, don’t panic, you’re probably fine. But if it’s your everyday habit, it’s only a matter of time before you’re making a repair call.

Doesn’t seem like much, but it’s crucial. This quick tip will save your blinds (and your wallet) from unnecessary damage.
